The frequency and intensity for extreme weather and climate events is increasing. The importance of understanding, mitigating, and adapting to that risk in the affordable housing sector is substantial: 17.6 million affordable housing units are located in areas projected to experience substantial loss from environmental hazards.

SAHF and its members recognize the importance of proactively addressing extreme weather and climate change to ensure protection of their portfolio and the communities they serve, not only for the financial benefits but also to provide safe, stable, accessible, and affordable homes.

SAHF’s climate risk assessment and accompanying resources were created to provide support in identifying portfolio-level trends and priority properties and to give affordable housing providers a pathway towards addressing risk.
