The State of the Basin Report is the first comprehensive synthesis of the intensifying drought, governance challenges and potential solutions to the Colorado River’s worsening water crisis, which is impacting 40 million people and more than $1.4 trillion in annual GDP.
Released in conjunction with the “Keep the River Running” campaign, the report comes with the Colorado at a crossroads: the river’s flow is severely reduced and reservoirs at record lows.
It is time for the Colorado River Basin to pivot from crisis management to building long-term solutions for this lifeline of the American West.
Drawing on recent research, the report highlights the scale of the shared challenges as well as the very real opportunities to accelerate action to safeguard the river and all the communities and economies that depend on it.
