SUMMARY:Galvanic Corrosion in the Water/Wastewater Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Stainless steel is selected for use in the municipal waterworks industry because of its inherent corrosion resistance properties. Designers oftentimes overlook the associated problems with coupling stainless steel with carbon steel metals. When these materials are electrically connected and placed into aqueous environments (immersion service)\, accelerated corrosion of the anodic carbon steel metal is initiated. \nThis webinar will review galvanic (bi-metallic) corrosion theory and\, in turn\, provide examples where bare stainless steel and coated carbon steel metals were coupled in water and wastewater structures. Recommendations will then be laid out on how to minimize the effects of galvanic coupling stainless steel with carbon steel metals.

SUMMARY:National Stormwater Policy Forum
DESCRIPTION:The National Stormwater Policy Forum is an annual event co-hosted by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the National Municipal Stormwater Alliance (NMSA). This half-day forum is part of Water Week and brings together stormwater professionals\, policymakers\, and other stakeholders to discuss the latest legislative and regulatory issues affecting the stormwater sector. \nThe forum provides a platform for participants to engage with national policymakers\, learn about current policy issues\, and advocate for the needs of the stormwater community. Topics typically covered include updates on stormwater design standards\, climate change resilience\, and emerging contaminants like PFAS. \nThe next forum is scheduled for April 7\, 2025. It will be a hybrid event\, allowing both in-person and virtual attendance. \nIn-person event will be held from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM at 660 North Capitol Street NW\, Suite 400\, Washington\, DC 200011. \nThe virtual event will be held via Zoom from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time. \nForum participation is free.

SUMMARY:Wastewater Treatment Primary Sedimentation and Solids Removal
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a comprehensive overview of primary treatment\, the essential solids separation stage in wastewater treatment. This one-hour webinar is designed for wastewater operators\, utility board members\, and municipal decision-makers seeking to understand how primary sedimentation reduces organic loading and protects downstream biological processes. \nWe’ll cover the fundamental principles of gravity settling\, typical primary clarifier configurations and equipment\, key operational parameters and performance monitoring\, and routine maintenance practices. You’ll learn how effective primary treatment improves overall plant efficiency and contributes to regulatory compliance. Whether you’re new to wastewater operations\, managing day-to-day operations or overseeing infrastructure investments\, you’ll gain practical insights into this crucial treatment stage. \nPresenter: James Markham\, Research Engineer at the Southwest Environmental Finance Center
